A group of Chinese tourists turned a Japanese guesthouse into a mess after a three-day visit, sparking public backlash in both China and Japan.

A Japanese blogger, whose X account is "roketdan2", on Nov. 23 posted on the social media platform that five tourists from China turned their guesthouse in Osaka into a mess within their duration of stay from Nov. 18 to 21, the South China Morning Post reported.

Photos showed several pieces of waste scattered all over the place, including food packages. Following the aftermath, the property became temporarily unavailable for reservation, according to several travel booking platforms, The Star reported.

The post sparked public outrage online from both Japanese and Chinese people, with some saying their actions had negatively affected the image of the Chinese people, while others called for the guests to be banned from coming back to Japan.

"At least tidy things up before going home," a comment said.

"If this person had a written address, send some garbage there, cash on delivery," another added.

"Because of you five people, all Chinese people will be perceived as being like this," another said.

Homestay guests are expected to clean up the property they stay in before leaving in Japan.
