A Chinese tourist fell to his death while climbing a mountain in Sichuan Province after reportedly untying his safety rope to take pictures.

The man, identified by his surname Hong, died on Sept. 25 while scaling Nama Peak standing at 5,588 meters, according to Channel News Asia.

A video circulating online shows the man falling down the side of the mountain.

Chinese media outlet Red Star News reported that the man, in his 30s, had unhooked his safety rope to capture photos. While attempting to stand up, he tripped over his crampons and plunged to his death.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

A relative of Hong revealed that it was his first time visiting the mountain and that he fell from a height of approximately 100 to 200 meters.
