Casinos in 7 tourist destinations to be inspected

Vietnam has nine casinos including three major ones on Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang Province, Hoi An in Quang Nam Province and Ho Tram in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province.

The other six small-scale casinos are in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Da Nang.

The move is to ensure that casino and prize-winning electronic games business activities strictly comply with the law, the government portal reported. The finance ministry said several casinos have recently been found serve illegitimate customers and provide services that were not allowed, it said.

Gambling is illegal in Vietnam, except at certain casinos which are mostly only open to foreigners.
