A 43-year-old Australian man was found dead at a massage parlor on Thailand's Koh Samui island in the early hours of Monday after staff initially heard him snoring in his sleep following a massage session.

When they later attempted to wake him, they discovered he had died.

Police arrived at the scene around 7 a.m. and confirmed the man had died on a bed inside one of the parlor's private upstairs rooms, Thaiger reported.

He had paid 400 baht (US$12.28) for a one-hour traditional oil massage just after midnight.

The staff member said the man arrived at the parlor alone on July 7, barefoot, and requested a one-hour oil massage. She completed the massage as scheduled and received full payment, Khaosod English news site reported.

The man then asked to rest on the bed, so she left the room and tended to other clients.

Roughly 10 minutes later, she returned and found him asleep. Hearing him snoring, she chose not to disturb him. At around 4 a.m., she reported still hearing his snoring.

However, at approximately 6:20 a.m., when she returned to wake him, she found him unresponsive.

She called other staff for assistance and contacted emergency services, but medical personnel confirmed that he had already died.

Police said they are awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.

Preliminary information suggests Christopher was visiting Thailand with his wife but had walked alone from nearby accommodation to the massage parlor.
