Instead of flying to Vietnam and traveling to Ha Long Bay by conventional routes, visitors now have a distinctive and scenic option: arriving via the Ha Long International Cruise Port.

Officially opened in 2018, the Ha Long International Cruise Port has introduced a new chapter for Ha Long tourism, bringing this UNESCO World Natural Heritage site closer to international travelers. Located in the heart of the Bai Chay tourist area, the port, developed with a total investment of VND1,100 billion (US$42.2 million), can accommodate modern cruise ships carrying over 10,000 passengers, as well as luxury yachts. Since its inauguration, it has remained one of the most advanced cruise ports in Vietnam.

Designed for convenience and safety, the port features a 785-meter-long and 10.5-meter-wide gangway, providing a direct and secure connection from the terminal building to the docking area.

The international terminal spans 462 meters and is capable of handling two large cruise ships at once, with a daily capacity of up to 10,000 passengers. Meanwhile, the domestic terminal includes four berths that can accommodate 200–300 cruise and sightseeing boats daily, serving up to 15,000 visitors exploring Ha Long Bay.

Since opening, the port has become a key hub for both domestic and international tourism, connecting Ha Long with destinations across Europe and the Americas. It has hosted some of the world's most prestigious cruise lines, including Costa Serena, Celebrity Solstice, and Noordam, which have included Ha Long as a stop on their Southeast Asian itineraries.

Beyond its functional design, Ha Long International Cruise Port also stands out for its architectural features. The 13,500-square-meter passenger terminal, designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, blends Indochine architectural elements with the silhouette of a classic European vessel.

Inside, carved details, expansive spaces, and warm golden lighting create an atmosphere of elegance, reminiscent of Hoi An's historic trading streets. Advanced technology is also integrated throughout the terminal to streamline immigration procedures, ensuring a smooth and comfortable arrival experience for visitors.

As night falls, the port transforms into a lively destination with the Cruise Night Street, offering a vibrant seaside atmosphere. On select evenings, live music performances accompany sunset views over Ha Long Bay, celebrated as one of the most beautiful places in the world to witness the sunset.

The Ha Long International Cruise Port is designed to enhance visitor experience at every step. Ticket purchases for Ha Long Bay tours are now more convenient, supported by a modern system, efficient procedures, and attentive staff. From the port, travelers can select from a range of sightseeing routes tailored to different schedules and interests.

For those with limited time, the four-hour tour covers iconic sites such as Thien Cung Cave, Dau Go Cave, Trong Mai Islet, and the Ba Hang fishing village. Along the way, visitors can admire the bay's stunning scenery, explore fascinating caves, and enjoy kayaking or a traditional bamboo boat ride.

For a more extensive journey, the six-hour tour includes additional highlights like Sung Sot Cave, one of the bay's largest and most impressive caverns, and Titop Island, known for its white sandy beach and panoramic views from the summit.

For travelers seeking privacy and an elevated experience, an overnight cruise offers dinner on deck followed by the unforgettable experience of waking up to sunrise over Ha Long Bay.

From the port, visitors can also venture into Ha Long City to explore its culinary offerings and landmarks such as Sun World Ha Long, the Quang Ninh Museum, and Vui Fest Night Market. High-speed boat services from the port also connect travelers to Hai Phong and Co To Island, providing fast and convenient access to nearby destinations.

In 2025, the Ha Long International Cruise Port is expected to welcome approximately 70 cruise ships, bringing nearly 90,000 international visitors to Ha Long Bay, an increase of 1.3 times compared to 2024, which saw over 76,000 arrivals. Starting the year on a strong note, the port has already received nearly 15,000 international guests via 11 cruise ships from leading luxury cruise brands.

This year's cruise schedule features prominent international cruise lines, including Mein Schiff 6, Celebrity Solstice, and Costa Serena. Notably, during the peak travel month of November 2025, Ha Long is set to welcome cruise ships from Beihai (China) with a frequency of three voyages per week, strengthening ties with the Northeast Asian tourism market.

"With outstanding infrastructure, premium services, and a prime location, the Ha Long International Cruise Port serves as a gateway connecting travelers to the majestic beauty of Ha Long Bay and the many unique experiences this heritage city offers," a port representative said.
