A 76-year-old female passenger aboard a Cathay Pacific Airways flight sustained a head injury when a piece of carry-on luggage fell from an overhead compartment and struck her skull.

The incident happened on Monday night as the flight was leaving Hong Kong International Airport for London Heathrow Airport, the South China Morning Post reported.

The woman received medical help at the airport before being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Dimsum Daily reported.

Due to the accident, the flight was delayed for nearly an hour.

It was initially set to depart at 11:15 p.m. on Monday, but finally took off at 0:06 a.m. on Tuesday.

A Cathay Pacific representative said the woman’s injury might have been caused by items that had been improperly placed for storage in the overhead compartment.

As soon as the cabin crew and ground staff were informed about the injured passenger, they immediately requested assistance and arranged for her to be taken to a nearby hospital, the airline said.
