A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly making hijacking threats aboard a United Airlines flight bound for the U.S.'s Newark City, forcing the plane to return and leave 150 passengers stranded overnight.

United Flight 1681, traveling from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas to Newark Liberty International Airport, returned safely on Oct. 24, following what the airline described as a "potential security concern," British newspaper The Independent reported.

The Boeing 737 was carrying 150 passengers and six crew members. No injuries were reported.

A flight attendant saw the passenger sending a message about hijacking the plane and alerted the captain. The crew then secured the cockpit and decided to return to Las Vegas, New York Post reported.

Officers detained the passenger, identified as Dante Milne, without incident after the plane landed safely, Fox News reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it would investigate the incident.

The diversion disrupted other passengers’ travel plans, leaving them stranded overnight. United said the delay occurred because the crew had reached its maximum permitted working hours.

A replacement flight departed the next morning on Oct. 25, and arrived in Newark more than eight hours behind schedule, according to USA Today.
