Nguyen Hoang Thanh, Le Thanh Dat, Ngo Thanh Tinh, Le Thanh Tien and Vo Duong Bao Hung, aged 20-21, were detained Thursday for an investigation into "disrupting public order."
The move came following eight months of verifications and other procedures regarding the videos uploaded on TikTok.
On March 25, Thanh’s group drove three cars from the southern Binh Duong to Vung Tau. The same night, they recorded videos of the cars racing on 2 Thang 9 Street in Vung Tau, before uploading them to social media.
Vung Tau police said the uploading and distribution of the videos that contain illegal acts have negatively affected security, order and social safety, as well as "awareness among the youth."
An investigation is ongoing.
Last month, model Ngoc Trinh was also arrested for public order after doing illegal stunts on a motorbike and uploading the stunt videos to social media.
