At around 3 a.m., a five-seat Mercedes rammed into house No. 47 on Hang Bac Street in Hoan Kiem District, causing parts of its walls to collapse.
Two women were inside the car at the time of the incident. Both came out uninjured, and they were taken to a local police station for questioning. The driver had alcohol levels in her blood, authorities said.
Occupants of house No. 47 reported being awoken by the crash before getting out of bed to find the car wreck inside their home.
"I was asleep when I heard a loud explosion. I ran out and saw that a car had rammed into the house. I saw two women getting out of the car. They seemed to be panicking, and maybe drunk," said Nguyen Ngoc Chien, an occupant.
"After the impact, I saw that the walls were busted and cracked, but it seemed that the things inside were not affected. The iron gates in front of the house had completely collapsed," he added.
House No. 47 on Hang Bac Street have existed before 1883. There are six families living inside the house. The front of the house is rented out to a jewelry shop.
