China’s largest food delivery platform Meituan has opened an office in HCMC and started recruiting employees.

Meituan Technology Co., Ltd. was registered in late 2025 to do business in information technology and related computer services. This month it started hiring for business development roles in the city though it has not announced specific launch timelines or operating plans.

In job postings, Meituan Vietnam describes itself as a unit of China’s Meituan and says it is assembling a local team to develop a digital services ecosystem in Vietnam. It is seeking staff to introduce the platform and find and sign up partners such as restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues. Applicants are also expected to assist partners with registration, listing products on the platform and ensuring smooth processing of orders.

Meituan is one of China’s leading online lifestyle service companies with a nearly 70% share of the food delivery market. It operates a broad ecosystem that includes food delivery, in-store services, hotel and travel bookings. Food delivery remains its core business.

In Vietnam, food delivery services are typically integrated with ride-hailing platforms. Meituan’s move comes as Vietnam’s ride-hailing and food delivery market continues to expand.

According to market research firm Mordor Intelligence, the app-based ride-hailing market was worth around US$1 billion last year and could exceed $3 billion by 2031 after growing at 19.5% annually. A survey by Rakuten Insight shows that more than 10 ride-hailing platforms are operating in Vietnam, with the major players being Grab, Xanh SM and Be.

A May 2025 report by market research firm Cimigo said Be was the leader in the two-wheeler segment, covering ride-hailing, express delivery and food delivery.

If it formally launches services, Meituan would enter a market that is already well established and highly competitive.
