In the 2026 World University Rankings by subject released on Wednesday by Times Higher Education (THE), the Beijing-based university ranked 10th worldwide. The result represents a two-place improvement from 2025 and marks Peking University’s highest position yet in computer science.
The 2026 computer science rankings evaluate performance across areas including software development and engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and cybersecurity and networks.
THE assessed 1,165 universities from 84 countries and territories using 18 performance indicators. Institutions were required to meet a publication threshold of at least 500 research outputs over the five-year period from 2020 to 2024 to be included.

Oxford University retained the top global position, supported by strong scores in teaching and international outlook, THE said.
Across Asia, 19% of universities improved their positions in the computer science rankings compared with the previous year.
China had 86 institutions listed, with Tsinghua University ranking 12th, followed by Zhejiang University in 23rd and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 25th.
