ShanghaiRanking's 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, released on Sept. 15, covers 57 disciplines across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.
Universities are assessed in five areas: faculty achievements, research output, research quality, research impact and international collaboration. For automation and control, the assessment considers factors such as highly cited researchers, publications in leading journals, citation impact and international research partnerships.
Beyond automation and control, NTU ranked first globally in artificial intelligence and fourth in electrical and electronic engineering.
It also placed fifth in mechanical engineering and telecommunication engineering, sixth in nanoscience and nanotechnology, seventh in computer science and engineering, and eighth in transportation science and technology.
