The crowd, including amateur developers, retired aerospace engineers, homemakers, students and AI enthusiasts, gathered after being invited by Tencent’s cloud computing division, where the company’s engineers helped install the software for free, the South China Morning Post reported.
At the same time, Chinese social media platforms were flooded with posts advertising similar installation services, with fees ranging from several dozen to a few hundred yuan (100 yuan equals about US$14.5).
A 60-year-old retired aerospace engineer who attended the event said he joined the queue because he wants to use his free time to come to learn about the AI. He said he first learned computers more than three decades ago but finds the technology landscape very different today, adding that he does not want to "get left behind" with the technology.

Tencent said in a social media post that within three hours its engineers had deployed hundreds of OpenClaw agents to the Tencent Cloud Lighthouse platform. It added that it plans to organize similar events in other Chinese cities and provide online guides for users.
OpenClaw, previously known as Clawdbot and Moltbot, was developed by Austrian programmer Peter Steinberger and released last year, drawing global attention. Unlike conventional chatbots that mainly respond to user prompts, OpenClaw is designed to perform tasks directly on a user’s computer system, allowing it to execute actions on the user’s behalf.
In China, the trend of adopting OpenClaw has been dubbed "raise the lobster," with users turning to the AI agent for tasks such as stock analysis, report writing, slide preparation, email drafting and coding.
Several technology companies have begun integrating similar capabilities into their products. Smartphone brands Xiaomi and ZTE-backed Nubia have announced plans to add OpenClaw-style AI agent features to some models, while cloud service providers including ByteDance and Alibaba Group Holding are offering solutions to run the software on their platforms.
