That marks a shift from last year, when engineering topped the list. The survey suggests computer science pay projections jumped 10.9% year over year, allowing the field to move ahead of engineering. For 2026 master’s grads, engineering is projected to average $92,873.
Other strong-paying master’s majors include business, around $86,563, and mathematics and sciences, about $81,129.
The survey is based on responses from 150 member organizations collected between Oct. 8- Nov. 30, 2025, with participating employers including companies such as Chevron, CVS Health, PepsiCo, and Verizon.

At the bachelor’s degree level, computer science graduates are also projected to command the highest starting salaries among all majors at about $81,535, followed by engineering graduates with projected salaries of $81,198.
In terms of hiring demand, the largest share of employers said they plan to recruit master’s graduates in computer science, while the field also ranks as the third most in-demand at the bachelor’s level.
