Matrix, which debuted on Feb. 5 at a testing facility in Kunshan, has a 20-meter wingspan, measures 17.1 meters long and 3.3 meters high, and is described by AutoFlight as the world’s largest eVTOL aircraft.
It is designed to carry up to 10 passengers or transport as much as 1,500 kilograms of cargo.
AutoFlight said Matrix will be offered in two versions: a passenger model and a heavy-duty logistics variant.
The passenger version can be configured with either 10 business-class seats or six VIP seats and includes amenities such as climate control, ambient lighting, large windows, and a bathroom.
The cargo version uses a hybrid power system and can carry two AKE standard containers, according to technology outlet New Atlas.
The fully electric version has a maximum range of about 250 kilometers, while the hybrid-electric model can fly up to 1,500 kilometers.
Founded in 2017 and backed by the world’s largest EV battery maker CATL, AutoFlight initially focused on cargo transport but has seen strong growth potential in passenger services, senior vice president Xie Jia said, according to the South China Morning Post.
He said the company ultimately aims to make aerial travel more accessible, with prices that could one day approach those of premium ride-hailing services, although large-scale deployment remains three to five years away.
AutoFlight is also targeting overseas expansion, with Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East identified as key markets.
