Among Apple's 2024 iPhone lineup, the 16 Pro Max, 16 Pro and 16 Plus each received a $10 increase in estimated trade-in value, bringing them to $695, $560 and $465. The world's best selling smartphone of 2025, the standard 16 received the largest increase, rising $25 from $435 to $460.
The U.S. tech giant launched its trade-in program in 2013 alongside the 5s, allowing customers to lower the cost of upgrading by exchanging eligible devices instead of selling them through third-party marketplaces.
It also continues to accept older models. For example, an 8 can receive up to $35 in trade-in credit, while an 8 Plus is eligible for up to $40.

Trade-in values also increased for several other Apple devices, including iPads, Macs and Apple Watches. The largest increases included $35 for the MacBook Air and Mac mini, $20 for the iPad Pro, and $10 for the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Series 9, according to Mashable.
Apple also revised trade-in values for smartphones from other brands. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra dropped from $230 to $200, while the Google Pixel 8 Pro fell from $170 to $165. Trade-in values for the Samsung Galaxy S23 and OnePlus 12 were unchanged at $125 and $200, according to MacRumors.
Tech site BGR said keeping a device in good condition can help maximize its trade-in value, as scratches, dents, cracked screens and faulty buttons typically reduce the amount offered.
Customers may also receive more credit by trading in an older iPhone when purchasing a new one instead of using Apple's standalone trade-in program. For example, an 13 in good condition is valued at $320 when traded toward an 17 purchase, compared with $195 through Apple's dedicated trade-in website.
