Khieu lives in Los Angeles but works in San Francisco, where her hybrid job requires her to be in the office three days a week.
Her commute begins around 4:30 a.m., when she drives to Los Angeles International Airport to catch a 6 a.m. flight. After the 90-minute journey, she takes public transportation to her office, usually arriving by 8:30 a.m.
She maintains residences in both cities, allowing her to stay overnight in the San Francisco Bay Area when she has consecutive office days rather than fly back and forth daily. During the first half of 2026, she made the journey almost every week, taking between six and 10 flights a month, although she now flies less frequently, she told People magazine.

Khieu joined Google in January after nearly two years at software company NetSuite. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2023 with a degree in sociology, according to her LinkedIn profile, as reported by the New York Post.
Her unusual commute attracted attention after she shared a TikTok video that garnered nearly 700,000 views. "Everyone thought I was crazy," she said, adding that the experience now feels "so normal." She said she regularly encounters other passengers making similar journeys, and even flight attendants have begun recognizing her.
However, frequent flying presents challenges, particularly when flights are delayed or canceled. Khieu said she often books tickets just a day before departure. On one occasion, a canceled flight forced her to rent a car with four other passengers and drive roughly seven hours between the two cities. She arrived home just 30 minutes before an 8 a.m. meeting, leaving her no time to sleep.
Despite the inconvenience, Khieu said the arrangement allows her to pursue career opportunities without giving up her personal life in Los Angeles. "I didn't want to uproot my personal life, but knew that taking a new job in a new city was the right move for my professional career," she said.
Her family and friends have supported her decision, she added, helping her balance work and personal commitments across the two cities.
