An American personal finance creator claims to have discovered a cheaper way to book flights than using mainstream search engines like Google Flights or Skyscanner: by using AI chatbots.

Casper Opala, known online as Casper Capital, has over eight million social media followers and often uploads tips on saving money, especially on flights and holidays.

In a Facebook post, the Chicago-based influencer says he booked a US$92 flight that should have cost $1,050 with the help of ChatGPT.

He claims ChatGPT can help travelers save a lot of money by using smart prompts since 28% of cheap flights are available but hidden from regular search platforms.

He suggests seven prompts to find cheaper air rates and says he now uses them for every trip.

For flights a month out, he suggests asking: "Find the cheapest way to fly from [City A] to [City B] next month, include hidden routes + alternate airports."

To find lesser-known airlines not listed on major search sites: "Which budget airlines operate on this route that aren’t listed on Google Flights or Skyscanner?"

For flexible travelers, he says including layover cities in searches can reduce costs further.

He also suggests the "split ticket" approach, a trick used by U.K. rail travelers that split a journey into multiple tickets to save cost.

The fourth tip is to ask the AI to look for "mistake fares, flash sales, or unusually cheap flights."

To compare ticket prices across all platforms at the time of search: "Compare this flight across all platforms, where is it cheapest right now?"

He suggests instructing AI to monitor flight prices: "Monitor this route for four days, alert me if the price dips below $95."

Finally, to compare the option of booking two one-way tickets against a round trip: "Can booking two one-ways beat the round-trip price? Check both."

Casper says the method works so well that he trusts the AI completely: "Forget loyalty. Forget guessing. ChatGPT is your new travel agent, and it never rests."
