Foxconn Technology Group suspended assembly work on Tuesday at its Shenzhen unit that manufactures high-speed connectors, memory, and other iPhone parts, the South China Morning Post reported. The company said operations would resume once the government declared that typhoon-related risks had eased.
Foxconn’s Shenzhen facilities, spread across two areas of Guangdong province, account for about 25% of its total production capacity, according to Morgan Stanley data cited by SCMP.
Transport and logistics between China and global markets were also disrupted. Tech in Asia reported that e-commerce platform Shopee paused warehouse intake in Dongguan and Hong Kong.
Logistics experts said cross-border merchants may need three to five days to resume shipments, while major delivery and ride-hailing platforms suspended services in southern coastal cities.
Ragasa passed about 100 km (60 miles) south of Hong Kong before making landfall along China’s southern coast on Wednesday. Major cities in its path — Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, and Dongguan — are home to about 50 million people, according to Reuters.
