Chinese robotics firm UBTech Robotics announced the production of its 1,000th Walker S2 humanoid robot at its Liuzhou factory in southern China, six months after unveiling the first unit.

To celebrate the milestone, the company released a video showing hundreds of Walker S2 robots lined up in the factory, with one robot at the front wearing a scarf and performing a short dance, followed by another performing martial arts moves and kicking a cardboard box.

According to Interesting Engineering, this achievement marks a shift from experimental prototypes to large-scale deployment. While other Chinese companies, including Unitree Robotics, have commercialized humanoid robots in 2025, none has publicly reached the 1,000-unit production milestone. Global Times noted that this milestone comes just six months after the company produced the first of its kind in June at UBTech's Liuzhou facility.

UBTech said more than 500 Walker S2 robots have already been delivered to customers. In 2025, it secured manufacturing contracts worth a total of 800 million yuan (US$113 million). It is continuing to win new contracts, including agreements with automakers such as BYD, Geely Auto, FAW Volkswagen, and Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, although the deal values have not been disclosed.

Last November, the Shenzhen-based company announced it had shipped hundreds of Walker S2 units to operational industrial facilities, accompanied by footage showing hundreds of Walker S2 robots moving in synchronized formation inside a warehouse.

The video, which quickly went viral, sparked both fascination and skepticism. Brett Adcock, founder and CEO of U.S.-based robotics company Figure, dismissed the footage as "fake" and a product of CGI. In response, UBTech released a follow-up unedited video of the scene, with the company’s chief brand officer, Tan Min, stating that the skepticism reflects "a lack of understanding" of China’s manufacturing strength and its advanced robotics ecosystem.

Founded in March 2012 in Shenzhen, UBTech is best known for the Walker S2, its flagship humanoid robot. Standing at 1.76 meters tall and weighing 43 kilograms, the robot can carry loads of up to 15 kilograms. It is also the world’s first humanoid robot capable of autonomously returning to a charging station and swapping its own battery, enabling continuous operation with minimal human supervision.
