At a company birthday party, a conversation about phones revealed 15 employees use iPhones while 5 managers use Android.

Debates over the newly released iPhone 17 remind me of an interesting story I personally witnessed.

At a staff birthday party in our office building, 20 people gathered for a buffet. After the meal, someone brought up iPhones, and everyone showed their phones. Surprisingly, 15 used iPhones and the other five used Android.

What made it more interesting was that the Android users were department heads, directors, and building owners. Most had houses, cars, or their own businesses. The iPhone users were regular staff with rented living spaces.

I was reminded of the old SH motorbike trend. Young people with low incomes tried to buy a pricey motorbike for bragging rights. One employee even borrowed from the company to get one, hoping it would help him attract a girlfriend. He got one after three months but soon broke up.

I started out on a Honda Wave motorbike after graduating, then upgraded to a Honda Lead, and later a car for work. I own four properties but never had a strong desire for an iPhone. I sometimes compared models from different brands and realized it was not worth the money.

I returned to using Android. My technical sales job allows me to compare features between brands and choose the best option for myself.

Personal preferences are fine, but young people should think long term and refrain from spending on overly expensive desires.
