American actress Kerry Washington sported an outfit by Vietnamese designer Cong Tri on the cover of Time magazine's 12 "Women of the Year" issue.

The wavy outfit hails from Tri's 2022 Spring-Summer collection, with long taffeta sleeves and skinny pants. Tri said the beige, wavy design is reminiscent of musical notes and conveys an image of elegance.

Washington's manager contacted Tri to prepare for the actress's appearance on the Time cover. The outfit was custom-made within around 360 hours before delivery to the U.S.

Time recognized Washington for her activism, including setting up the Vision Into Power Cohort program to support grassroots organizations that empower marginalized groups and invest in several women-led startups.

In an interview with Time, Washington said she was aware of the ways in which her work in Hollywood itself can be viewed as political.

"In a world that marginalizes people of color and women, to center a Black woman and make her fully human became perceived as a political act," she said.

Kerry Washington, 45, gained wide public recognition for her character Olivia Pope, a crisis management expert, in the ABC drama series 'Scandal". She received two nominations for the Golden Globe and eight Primetime Emmy nods, of which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) in 2020.
