Participants are set to pass by famous capital attractions during VnExpress Marathon (VM) Hanoi Midnight this November.

Athletes will start off from Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and finish at the Dinh Tien Hoang and Lo Su intersection, right next to Hoan Kiem Lake.

Over the 5-km distance, athletes will run pass through Cau Go, Ly Thai To, Ly Thuong Kiet, Nha Chung, Hang Gai, and Luong Van Can before finishing with a lap around the Sword Lake, a popular spot among city runners on the weekend.

The 10-km distance is ideal for those who love the ancient complexity of the thousand-year-old capital, starting off in the Sword Lake area and passing along Ba Dinh Square to Phan Dinh Phung, one of the most beautiful streets in Hanoi, before returning to the Old Quarter.

The two most challenging distances, 21 km and 42 km, will commence from Thong Nhat Park in Hai Ba Trung District to Truc Bach Lake in Tay Ho District.

In the half marathon (21 km), runners will head past Hanoi Opera House and streets like Le Thanh Tong, Phan Chu Trinh, Ngo Thi Nham, Hue, Nguyen Du and Nguyen Dinh Chieu. The course continues at Thong Nhat Park before entering Tran Hung Dao and Ly Thuong Kiet streets. The other half of the run will involve 10 km along Thanh Nien Road and a lap around Truc Bach Lake.

The full marathon will follow the same course as the half marathon but continue along Hang Dau Street after passing the 21 km mark on Dinh Tien Hoang.

To guarantee the safety of over 5,000 athletes, organizers will set up several medical, water and navigation check points. On average, there will be one checkpoint every two km, with eight medical stops in total.

Organizers will further install high-power lighting systems along the way so runners could take great photos. With a clear route and chilly weather, VM Hanoi Midnight may see several personal records set.

VM Hanoi Midnight closed registration on November 4. The event will take place from November 28 to 29. There's another VnExpress marathon in Hue on December 27. Registration for this marathon remains ongoing.
