In the women's 100 m event, Du Y placed 45th out of 55 athletes as she finished her run in 11.95 seconds, not enough to get her to the next round.
Y was the only Vietnamese athlete that met the standard for 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships, which takes place from Aug. 1 to 8 in Cali, Columbia. The tournament features 1,533 athletes from 145 countries competing in 45 events.
In SEA Games 31 hosted by Vietnam in May, Y finished her run in 11.94 seconds and only placed sixth out of eight athletes in the women's 100 m event. She also placed sixth in the women's 200 meters with a result of 24.50 seconds.
Y is considered the successor of pace queen Le Tu Chinh, who is an expert in the 100 m distance. Chinh, 25, is under treatment for injuries which caused her to miss SEA Games 31.
