Nguyen Linh Dan has won the gold medal in the U14 event at the 2021 Asian Youth Online Chess Championship.

She won seven matches, drew one and only lost one in the tournament to finish with 7.5 points.

Dan was followed by another Vietnamese, Nguyen Le Cam Hien, who also had 7.5 but finished second because he had fewer wins.

They were the only Vietnamese to win medals in the tournament.

In 2019 Dan had won silver in the U12 category while Hien won silver in the U8 category in 2015 and U12 category in 2018.

The event was held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic and had six age group events: U8, U10, U12, U14, and U18.

The girls’ event was held between October 22 and 24. India placed first with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals, followed by Kazakhstan with two golds and two silvers and Vietnam.

The boys’ event is from October 29 to 31.
