The Vietnam delegation to the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics will include 15 athletes, coaches and staff.

Among the members, there are seven athletes: Vo Thanh Tung, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu and Do Thanh Hai (swimming), Le Van Cong and Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (weightlifting), Cao Ngoc Hung and Nguyen Thi Hai (track and field).

These Vietnamese athletes haven't competed in any international tournament for two years due to Covid, greatly affecting their current form.

In 2020, they were training hard to prepare for Para Games in the Philippines but the event was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Most of the athletes in the delegation also took part in Paralympics 2016.

All members have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and will have to be tested three days before going to Tokyo.

Toyko Paralympics will take place from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5 with 22 sports and 540 categories.

At Paralympics 2016, Vietnam won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Weightlifter Le Van Cong claimed gold for Vietnam after registering a total weight of 183 kilograms, a world record for the men’s 49 kg category.
