Vietnam bag gold at Asian Jujitsu Championships

Vietnamese athletes won two gold medals at the 2022 Asian Jujitsu Championship in Bahrain on Wednesday.

Phung Thi Hue, the world defending champion, claimed gold after defeating UAE's Hamda Al Shekheili in the final of the women's 45 kg event. Earlier, world silver medalist Duong Thi Thanh Minh edged out Jordan's Rania Meqbel in the women's 52 kg event.

Besides the two goal medals, Vietnam also got a bronze by Vuong Vo Kim Thanh in the women's 57 kg event.

After two days of competition, Vietnam placed third out of 26 participating teams.

The Asian Jujitsu Championships take place from March 28 to 31 in Manama, Bahrain.

Vietnam sent 14 athletes to the tournament, considered a warm-up for SEA Games 31 in May.

At the previous SEA Games, Vietnam's jujitsu athletes finished sixth with two silver and six bronze medals.

Jujitsu is also set to be part of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, 2025 Asian Youth Games in Tashkent, 2025 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Saudi Arabia and Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
