The Vietnam International Challenge title helped Nguyen Thuy Linh ascend five places to 35th position in the update of world badminton ranking on Tuesday.

The victory over Japan's Asuka Takahashi in the final of Vietnam International Challenge on Sunday night earned Linh 4,000 points. In the past 12 months, she gained 34,270 points from 10 international tournaments.

A week ago, Linh cracked the top 40 for the first time in her career.

She is now 2,999 points away from the 30th position, now occupied by Japan's Aya Ohori. If Linh can advance to the final of another Challenge tournament while others cannot improve their score, she will be in the top 30.

The highest position in world ranking for a Vietnamese female badminton player is 34th, which was established by Vu Thi Trang on June 8, 2017. Trang is currently 111th. The remaining Vietnamese female badminton player in the top 200 is Vu Thi Anh Thu (136th).

In the men's ranking, Le Duc Phat climbed 73 places to 169th after finishing second at Vietnam International Challenge. The number one male badminton player in Vietnam is still Nguyen Hai Dang, who ascended 12 places to 152nd. Veteran player Nguyen Tien Minh climbed 12 places last week to 155th.

The badminton world ranking is updated every week.
