Ly Hoang Nam helped Vietnam win 3-0 against Jordan in the group stage of Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group III on Wednesday.

Nam faced Abedallah Shelbayh in the second match. The 18-year-old Jordanian player was on impressive form, having claimed two consecutive M15 titles in Tunisia to climb to 645th on the ATP World Ranking.

But Nam, who's 344th on the ranking, quickly showed his power and won the first set 6-2.

Shelbayh hit back in the second set. He led 3-1, let Nam equalize 4-4 then eventually won 6-4. Both players gave the spectators a great show in the final set. Nam led 4-1 before Shelbayh pushed the score to 5-5. The game entered the tie-break at 6-6. Nam saved two match points to eventually defeat Shelbayh after over three hours.

In the other two matches, Trinh Linh Giang won 6-3 against Mousa Alkotop, while Le Quoc Khanh and Nguyen Van Phuong claimed victory in the doubles match.

Vietnam's next opponent will be Malaysia.

The 2022 Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group III is being held from Aug. 10-13 at Hai Dang Tennis Club in Tay Ninh Province that borders HCMC.
