As Vietnam play the Netherlands on Thursday night, Chien will have the chance to return the favor after losing to Jaspers in the final of the Three-Cushion World Cup in Turkey last month. At the same time, Nguyen Duc Anh Chien will play Raimond Burgman.
The 2022 World Three-Cushion Championship for National Teams will take place from March 10 to 13 in Viersen, Germany. This year's tournament features 16 teams, divided into four groups of four. Vietnam are in group C with the Netherlands, France and Colombia. The top two teams of each group will make the quarterfinals. Each team will have two players, with Vietnam considered one of the strong teams with Quyet Chien (world number three) and Anh Chien (number 17).
A match is decided when a player reaches 40 points. Compared to Quyet Chien who have to play Jaspers, Anh Chien has a higher chance to win since Burgman is only 82nd in world rankings.
Sweden hold the most titles in this tournament with nine. Vietnam haven't advanced to the semifinals before. In 2019, it topped the group stage but lost to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. The prize pool for this year will be $9000.
