Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan has tested positive for Covid-19 in Georgia, where she has gone with the Vietnamese team for the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships.

She was immediately quarantined and has been removed from the competition where she was to have contested in the 55 kg category.

According to the Department of Physical Education and Sports, she is in hospital for treatment and her condition is stable.

Two other lifters in the four-member team who have yet to compete, Nguyen Binh An and Dang Thi Linh Phuong, are also in quarantine.

The Vietnamese team have sought quick tests for the duo to enable them to compete if they are not infected.

On Sunday Le Van Cong won the silver medal in the men’s 49 kg and qualified for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

The team were set to return home from Tbilisi on December 6, but plans might change under the circumstances.
