Thailand were announced on Aug. 30 as the host of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship, which will take place from Aug. 22 to Sept. 7.
As Thailand automatically qualify as the host country, Vietnam, who finished fourth in the 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship, are promoted to participate in the tournament. This was confirmed by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in a list sent to its member federations.
Le Tri Truong, the Secretary General of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, announced earlier that all necessary documents and procedures for participating in the 2025 World Championship, as required by the FIVB, had been completed and submitted.
The 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship will feature 32 of the world's top teams. The first group includes the reigning champions (Serbia) and 15 teams with high rankings in their continental championships (the top three teams from each continent). The second group includes the host nation Thailand and 15 teams with the highest rankings on the world leaderboard that are not already included in the first 16 teams.
In addition to Vietnam, Serbia, and Thailand, the remaining teams participating in the tournament are Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Puerto Rico, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, and the USA.
Vietnam are currently ranked 33rd in the world and fifth in Asia. Under coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, the team have made remarkable progress in recent years, winning the AVC Challenge Cup, Asia’s second-tier championship, twice in 2023 and 2024. In July, they earned a historic 3-1 victory over Belgium, a team ranked 21 places higher, to win the bronze medal at the 2024 FIVB Challenger Cup. The team had previously finished fourth in the 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship.
The team are currently competing in the international tournament VTV Cup held in Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team have reached the final for the 11th time in the tournament's history, where they face Russia's Korabelka Club.
