Son, his wife and their children set off on June 30 for Brazil, where they captured photos upon arriving in the coastal city of Salvador. This marks the start of their long summer break.
Earlier on June 22, Son and his family attended the 2024-2025 V. League title celebration at Thien Truong Stadium with Nam Dinh FC. Despite being sidelined for much of the season due to injury, the Brazilian-born striker contributed 7 goals, playing a key role in Nam Dinh's championship victory.
This trip marks the first time Son has returned to Brazil after acquiring Vietnamese citizenship at the end of 2024. He made a remarkable debut for Vietnam national team during the 2024 ASEAN Cup, scoring 7 goals in 4 matches and playing a significant role in the title win.
However, Son suffered a fractured leg during the second leg of the final against Thailand on Jan. 5, which required surgery and kept him out of play since then.
Following his outstanding performance at the ASEAN Cup, Son received tens of billions of VND (VND1 billion = $38,153) in bonuses from the Vietnam Football Federation and other organizations and individuals. He was also gifted a luxury apartment worth over $1 million by Nam Dinh FC chairman Nguyen Van Thien, along with two cars valued at nearly VND2 billion from the club's sponsor.
Son can walk normally now and is gradually returning to solo training with low intensity. He is expected to return to play for Nam Dinh and the national team in the next season.
