Vietnam are in the third-seed group for the 2022 U23 Asian Cup alongside regional giants Japan, Qatar and Iraq.

The seeds are divided into four groups of four, based on the performances in the U23 AFC Championship 2020.

Vietnam exited the 2020 tournament at the group stage, so they are in the third group with Iraq, Qatar and Japan, who were also eliminated early. Being in the same seeded group with these teams means that Vietnam won't have to face them in the group stage of the tournament.

Hosts Uzbekistan are in the first-seed group alongside defending champions South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Vietnam qualified for the tournament Tuesday, topping group I after two wins against Taiwan and Myanmar. This is the fourth consecutive time that they have qualified for the tournament. The best result that Vietnam achieved was in 2018, where they finished as runners-up.

U23 Asian Cup 2022 will be held June 1-19 with 16 teams divided into four groups. The draw for the group stage will be announced later.
