Thailand won their sixth AFF Cup title Saturday with a 6-2 victory after two legs of the final against Indonesia.

Indonesia failed to level the score after losing 0-4 in the first leg. They had a great start in the second leg on Saturday night with an early goal by Ricky Fajrin. Thailand keeper Siwarak Tedsungnoen made a big mistake in this goal when he couldn’t catch the ball cleanly as it bounced off his hands into the net.

Thailand didn’t let Indonesia dominate the game after conceding early. They created many chances, including Supachok Sarachat’s outside curler, which hit the bar.

The score after the first half was 1-0 for Indonesia, and they needed three more goals to bring the final back on level term.

However, eight minutes into the second half, Thailand found the equalizer. Chanathip Songkrasin made a pass for Bordin Phala inside the box to get a finish. Keeper Nadeo Argawinata tried to push the ball away, but it found Adisak Kraisom and he tapped it in to equalize for Thailand.

Two minutes later, Thailand scored another goal. Phala once again got the ball inside the box and crossed it in, forcing keeper Argawinata to punch the ball out, but Sarach Yooyen was quick to get another shot and netted it in.

After the goal, Thailand slowed down intentionally, while Indonesia could only get another goal in the 80th minute by Egy Maulana, who sprinted down the left flank, dribbled inside the box before finishing in the far corner.

The score in the second leg was 2-2 and Thailand won 6-2 overall to lift the trophy. They ended the tournament with eight games unbeaten, scoring 18 goals and only conceding in the last game.

The AFF Cup will return at the end of 2022 and the host country will be decided later.
