Queen of Thailand Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana made a commanding debut at the 33rd SEA Games, leading the host nation's sailing team to victory in two of the first three races.

Competing in the SSL47 class at Ocean Marina Pattaya in Chonburi Province on Monday, the Queen's team faced challengers from Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar and Malaysia. By winning two of the day's three stages, the Thailand team finished the opening day at the top of the leaderboard.

According to Khaosod, crowds gathered early at the marina to welcome the Queen.

"I have been waiting to welcome and support the Queen since the rehearsal day," said Worawimon, a Thai fan. "I believe Thailand will win the gold medal because all the team members are very talented."

Naphat, another spectator, noted that the Queen's participation made this edition of the SEA Games particularly special, boosting the spirit of both athletes and the general public.

Asso. Prof. Pimol Srivikrom, president of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, and Somprasong Nilsamai, president of the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, were present to greet Queen Suthida.

The SSL47 sailing event at the 33rd SEA Games runs from Dec. 15 to 18. The competition is scheduled for a total of six stages, typically with two races held per day. However, organizers adjusted the schedule to hold three races on the opening day to account for potential weather disruptions.

Medals will be awarded based on accumulated points after six stages. The competition will conclude on Dec. 18, with King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn scheduled to take charge of the medal ceremony.

Queen Suthida, 47, married King Maha (Rama X) in 2019 and was crowned shortly after in a grand ceremony.
