Lamine Yamal has faced criticism for his casual interaction with King Felipe VI of Spain following Barcelona's Copa del Rey final win over Real Madrid.

After the game, Yamal, 17, came under criticism for his behavior when the team met King Felipe VI. Daily Mail reported that Yamal, who was sporting two pairs of sunglasses and a backwards shirt, chose a casual "dap" instead of a handshake when he met the King.

Lamal’s gesture, which typically involves a slap of the palms and an embrace, drew attention on social media, with accusations of disrespecting the King.

It is also worth noting that the King is no stranger to Yamal and has met him on several occasions, even expressing shock at the young player's success, SPORTbible reported.

The Copa Del Rey final on April 26, which was filled with drama, saw Real Madrid's frustrations boil over at the end of extra time, with yellow and red cards handed out to key players, including manager Carlo Ancelotti and players Antonio Rudiger, Lucas Vazquez and Jude Bellingham.

The title was decided by Jules Kounde’s late winner in extra time after the score was tied 2-2.

Yamal has quickly become one of the brightest stars in European football, with Barcelona still in the Champions League and holding a four-point lead over Real Madrid in La Liga as they aim for a treble this season.

Yamal’s impressive start to his senior career includes 19 caps for Spain and playing a key role in the team’s Euro 2024 triumph.
