Dang Van Lam has a serious shoulder injury and will miss Vietnam’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches in October.

Lam, 28, was injured during training at his Japanese club Cerezo Osaka and might require surgery and several months of recuperation.

He will miss Vietnam’s next two games against China and Oman. He had played in the 0-1 defeat against Australia on September 7.

Head coach Park Hang-seo has called up another keeper, Tran Nguyen Manh, to the squad, the fourth along with Bui Tan Truong, Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Van Hoang.

Lam has been the number one choice since 2018.

He was in the team that won the 2018 AFF Cup and finished eighth in 2019 Asian Cup.

In the second round of World Cup qualifiers, he kept a clean sheet in the first five games. But he could not fly to the UAE to join the team for the last three games after a teammate at Osaka tested positive for Covid-19 and lost his position to Truong.

Vietnam will play China on October 7 and Oman on the 12th.
