Just a few days after joining Italian club AC Milan, Spain captain striker Alvaro Morata announced that he and his model wife Alice Campello had split, ending their eight-year marriage.

Morata has just completed a four-year move to Milan for a fee of $14.17 million from Atletico Madrid. The Spanish striker did not wear his wedding ring when he signed autographs and took pictures with Milan fans recently, sparking rumors of a rift in their marriage, Daily Mail reported.

On Monday, Morata confirmed the split from Campello on his Instagram.

"After some time of reflection, Alice and I have made the decision to part ways," he wrote. "A wonderful and respectful reciprocal relationship where we have loved and helped each other a lot. They have been wonderful years and the result of them is our four children, who are undoubtedly the best thing we have ever done."

At the same time, Campello changed her name on social media from "Alice Campello Morata" to "Alice Campello". The Italian model called the split a difficult decision and affirmed that there was no third person between her family and Morata.

"Alvaro and I have decided to separate, and it is the most difficult decision we have ever made in our lives. I want to make it clear, as he has, that there have been no third parties or any kind of disrespect from either of us.

"I can only say that in these eight years, I have had a person by my side who has done nothing but prioritize me, take care of me, and respect me, and for that reason, I cannot allow any kind of false speculation and the decision to announce it 'so soon'."

The announcement came just two weeks after Morata and Campello shared a passionate kiss on the beach during their family holiday in Sardinia, Italy. Campello also came to support Morata when Spain beat England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on July 14.

Morata began dating Campello in 2016 when he was still playing for Italian side Juventus and tied the knot with her in June 2017, shortly before he moved to Chelsea from Real Madrid. They have three sons and a daughter together, and Morata has a tattoo of Campello and her name on his arm.

Morata spent his youth career at Atletico and Real, and was the top scorer when Spain won the U19 and U21 European Championships in 2011 and 2013. He has played for many top European teams including Real, Atletico, Chelsea, Juventus and now Milan.

He made his debut for the national team in 2014 and was a member of Spain's Euro 2016, Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup squads before being named captain by coach Luis de la Fuente in 2023. The 31-year-old striker has scored 36 goals in 80 matches, helping Spain win the 2023 Nations League and Euro 2024.

Campello, 29, is a model and internet personality who has worked with Chanel and Dior.
