Nguyen Quang Hai predicted a challenging match when Vietnam play Malaysia in AFF Cup on Sunday.

"Vietnam have faced Malaysia many times, but I still cannot give an accurate take on them at the moment. Because in each tournament and each game they will display a different approach and preparation," Hai said.

In AFF Cup 2018, Vietnam beat Malaysia 3-2 after two legs of the final to claim the title. In the second round of World Cup qualifiers, Vietnam also won both legs against Malaysia.

On Sunday, the two teams will meet again in a group B game of AFF Cup.

"It will be a difficult game. Malaysia players have great physique and some are really skilled. Vietnam have to be well-prepared. Each individual has to complete their role so we can get a good result," Hai added.

Besides physical preparation, Vietnam also had to give players a mental boost as they have to stay in their hotel most of the time due to the strict Covid-19 prevention guidelines of AFF Cup host Singapore.

"On days with no training, we still hit the field for fresh air. We also relieve stress by playing games and other sports like table tennis," Hai said.

The game between Vietnam and Malaysia will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. It will be reported live on VnExpress International.
