Before the final game of group F against Philippines, coach Shin Tae-yong believed that Indonesia players would win and advance to the third round of World Cup qualifiers.

Indonesia will qualify for the third qualifying round if they beat Philippines in the match at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at home stadium Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta.

They are currently second in group F, one point ahead of Vietnam. If Indonesia draw or lose, they will have to wait for the result of the Vietnam vs Iraq game, at 1 a.m. on Wednesday (Hanoi time).

"I'm not worried before the match," coach Shin said at a press conference on Monday. "We will definitely advance to the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup."

According to the South Korean coach, Indonesia can decide their fate with home advantage. He said that his players are still confident despite losing to Iraq in the previous match because they performed well and were not inferior to their opponents in terms of tactics.

Shin also asked his players to give all they've got to defeat Philippines, instead of waiting for Iraq to beat Vietnam. He said that Philippines, even though eliminated, will still play the game with high determination and cause them many difficulties.

Looking back at the Philippines' 2-3 loss to Vietnam last week, Shin was impressed with their counterattacks and thought they were very close to leaving My Dinh with a point.

"Indonesia have no way back and certainly will not back down," Shin said. "We must do our best to bring victory to the fans."

Shin could continue making history by helping Indonesian football enter the third qualifying round of the World Cup for the first time.

Previously, he led Indonesia past the Asian Cup group stage for the first time, before losing to Australia in the round of 16. After that, he helped Indonesia finish fourth at the 2024 U23 Asian Cup, but failed to qualify for the Olympics after losing 0-2 to Guinea in the intercontinental play-off.
