Former top striker Sergio Aguero has filed a lawsuit against Barcelona over $3.2 million owed as part of his 2021 contract termination clause.

Aguero signed a two-year contract with Barcelona after leaving Man City in 2021. However, he only played five games before retiring due to heart problems. The 36-year-old striker collapsed on the pitch with an abnormally high heart rate during a La Liga match against Alaves on Oct. 31, 2021.

Two months later, Aguero announced his retirement after reaching an agreement with Barcelona to terminate his contract early.

However, according to ESPN, a report on Barcelona's finances for the 2023-2024 season showed that Aguero had sued his former club to claim unpaid wages.

"On May 29, 2024, ex-player Sergio Aguero filed a claim for $3.2 million that, according to him, he is owed as part of the resolution agreement to end his working relationship with the club," the report stated.

"As of June 21, 2024, there was no conciliatory agreement between the parties. The club is now waiting for the claim to be processed by a local court for the next step in the procedure."

The dispute with Aguero is just one of nine legal cases that Barcelona are facing in the report titled "Litigation". A company named "Scores Sports Management" is also demanding $10.9 million in compensation for its intermediary role in the transfer of forward Ousmane Dembele to PSG in 2023, a deal worth $54.6 million.

The report was sent to selected members of the club's committee, ahead of the annual general meeting on Oct. 19. At the meeting, members will get to question the financial results for the 2023-2024 season and Barcelona are likely to announce a loss of $99.4 million for last season.

Last week, Barcelona lost a lawsuit against Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg and failed to get a $500,000 bonus over the transfer of Brazilian winger Malcom.

Aguero is regarded as one of the best strikers of all time and one of the greatest players in the history of Premier League. With 260 goals in 390 apps for Manchester City, he is the club's all-time top scorer, winning five Premier League titles during his 10 years there.
