Lee Dong-jun affirmed there's no truth in the recent rumors of Park Hang-seo coaching Thailand when his contract expires with Vietnam.

"That story is nonsense. It's not the truth at all. I don't understand why such rumors can exist. Coach Park and I don't know anything about this.

"There's no invitation from Thailand. Park is concentrating on preparations for the final World Cup qualifiers at the moment," Lee told VnExpress on Monday.

Park's contract with Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will expire on Jan. 31, 2022 with an option of extending for one more year.

Recently, the rumor surfaced on many media outlets, saying Park could coach Thailand after his contract with Vietnam expires. The head coach position of Thailand is currently vacant after coach Akira Nishino was fired due to disappointing results during World Cup qualifiers.

Park became head coach of Vietnam in late 2017 and since, has achieved many accolades with the team, including second place at U23 AFC Championship 2018, victory at AFF Cup 2018, top eight of Asian Cup 2019 and recently, taking the team to the final World Cup qualifying round for the first time ever.

He renewed his contract in November 2019, with a monthly salary around $50,000 after tax.

"Coach Park and I hope to find common ground with VFF in extending the contract," Lee said.

Park and the players are in the preparation process for their first final World Cup qualifying round game against Saudi Arabia, set to take place on Sept. 2.
