Vietnam's Tran Ngoc Luong claimed a knockout victory against Brazilian fighter Felype Morais de Souza at LION Championship 17 after unleashing a flurry of punches to his opponent's face.

The bout, held on Sunday afternoon in Hanoi, garnered significant attention despite being a friendly match. Luong is currently number one in the 60 kg weight class of LION Championship, while Souza, a formidable opponent from Brazil, is known for his expertise in Muay Thai.

The match was closely contested and remained tense until the third round, when Souza's stamina began to run out. Seizing the opportunity, Luong took the fight to the ground, pinning Souza down and delivering a series of punches to his face. The referee promptly stopped the match and handed the Vietnamese fighter a technical knockout victory.

After the match, Luong said he will try to improve his performance as he sets his sights on challenging the reigning 60 kg champion, Robson Oliveira de Soares of Brazil.

LION Championship 17 is part of the 2024 Vietnam professional MMA championship. The next event, LION Championship 18, will take place in Hanoi on Oct. 12.
