Coach Shin Tae-yong of Indonesia is confident to reach the final of SEA Games 31 men’s football, but still considers Vietnam the strongest team.

"Vietnam are still the title contender in group A and they can win gold. But Indonesia will try our best to enter the final. Since we have to meet Vietnam in the opening game, I will ask PSSI (the Football Association of Indonesia) to speed up the training process," Shin said.

PSSI Presdisent Mochamad Iriawan is even more confident about Indonesia.

"With great preparation, Indonesia can win SEA Games 31. The players will give 100 percent of their discipline and concentration. PSSI believes that the team will achieve this target," Iriawan said.

Indonesia are in group A with hosts Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines and Timor Leste. They will play the first game against Vietnam on May 6 at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho Province.

The team will train in South Korea from Aug. 8 to 29 before going to Vietnam.

The most recent time that Indonesia won a SEA Games men's football gold medal was in 1991, while Vietnam are the defending champion, having clinched gold in 2019 after beating Indonesia 3-0 in the final.
