The goal by Thai midfielder Weerathep Pomphan in the 94th minute secured a final berth for Thailand.
Indonesia began the match with an all-out offense approach to surprise Thailand, but midfielder Marc Anthony Klok missed a penalty just two minutes into the game. Thailand, seemingly unsurprised by Indonesia's attack, focused on maintaining appropriate distances on their side of the field. After about 20 minutes, Thailand slowly gained the upper hand thanks to their midfielders' superb control capabilities.
After the break, Thailand stepped up their game further, pushing Indonesia into defense. It was a tug-of-war for the rest of the match, but Indonesia's explosive early game meant their strength waned late into the match, forcing multiple player changes.
Four red cards were issued during the match, one to Thailand and three to Indonesia.
With their win, Thailand have entered the SEA Games final for the 21st time, and have the opportunity to win their 17th men's football gold in the regional tournament.
They will meet winners of the other semifinal between Vietnam and Indonesia played later the same day in Phu Tho's Viet Tri Stadium.
