Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai has approved an additional budget of VND449 billion ($19.65 million) for SEA Games 31.

The money is taken from the national budget for sports and physical training in 2022. Four ministries and central agencies will be provided VND378.3 billion, while Hanoi and 11 other provinces will receive an additional VND70.7 billion.

The Deputy PM on Friday requested the units to use, pay and settle the budget economically and transparently.

SEA Games 31 will begin on May 12 and conclude on May 23 in Hanoi and 11 provinces across northern Vietnam. It will feature 40 sports with 526 categories and around 10,000 participants.

The budget to host SEA Games 31 was earlier estimated at around VND1,300 billion ($56.9 million). Organizers expect to get $11.3 million in revenue, of which $3 million is from sponsors.

This is the second time Vietnam is hosting the SEA Games. The first time was in 2003.
