In swimming, Vietnamese star Nguyen Huy Hoang won his fourth personal gold medal at the 31st SEA Games, finishing the 200m butterfly event in 1:58.81 minutes.
He won a gold medal in the 800m freestyle in 7:57:65 minutes the same day. Vietnam's Tran Huu Kim Son won a silver by finishing in 8:04:23 minutes while Malaysia's Yean Khiew came more than two seconds later to win bronze.
Hoang had also won gold in the 1,500m freestyle and 400m freestyle earlier in the tournament.

Singapore's swimmer Wei Teong set a SEA Games record by finishing the men's 50m freestyle in 21.93 seconds, winning a gold medal.
Eu Jin Tan of Singapore won the silver medal in the event by finishing in 22.24 seconds and Vietnam's Jeremie Nino Luong won bronze in 22.85 seconds.
Cueist star Tran Quyet Chien beat Filipino legend Efren Reyes
Tran Quyet Chien, Vietnam's number one cueist and world, number three, beat billiard legend Efren Reyes in a three-cushion carom match with a 40-10 victory. After the victory, Chien bowed over his 68-year-old opponent, who is considered the greatest cueist in the world's billiards pool.
Vietnamese, Thai weightlifters set new records
Vietnamese weightlifter Lai Gia Thanh lifted a total of 268kg in men's 55kg event to win gold and set a SEA Games record.

Thai athlete Thada Somboon-Uan lifted 256kg to win the silver medal and Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan won a bronze by lifting 252kg.
Thailand also broke two weightlifting records Thursday.
Surodchana Khambao lifted a total of 195 kg to break the SEA Games record in the women's 49kg event and win a gold medal. Vietnam's Pham Dinh Thi won silver by lifting 183kg. Philippines' Rosegie Ramos Amis lifted 179kg.
Earlier in the women's 45kg event, Thailand's Sukcharoen Thanyathon also broke the record set by Vietnam at the previous Games by lifting a total of 174kg.

Vietnam's Khong My Phuong lifted a total of 172kg in the 45kg event to win a silver medal.

Martial arts and other gold medals
Wrestling earned Vietnam four gold medals on Thursday thanks to Tran Van Truong Vu in men's 97kg freestyle event, Can Tat Du won in the 74kg event, Phung Khac Huy in the 57kg event and Nguyen Xuan Dinh in the 65kg event.
Karate athletes also won four gold medals Thursday, thanks to the performances of Do Thanh Nhan in the -84kg kumite men event, Bui Thi Thao in the over-84kg kumite women event, Ho Thi Thu Hien in the -68kg kumite women event, and the trio Nguyen Thi Phuong, Luu Thi Thu Uyen and Nguyen Ngoc Tram in kata women event.
In vovinam, which is returning to SEA Games after nine years, Vietnam earned two gold medals thanks to Nguyen Thanh Liem in the 60kg men event and Do Phuong Thao in the 65kg women event.
Judo also earned Vietnam two more gold medals. Nguyen Thi Huong won one in the 63kg women event and Le Anh Tai in the 90kg men event.
Pham Thi Thu Hien won a taekwondo gold medal in women's 62kg event, beating her Thai opponent in extra time.
In shooting, Hoang Thi Tuat won a gold medal in women's trap event.
In cycling, Quang Van Cuong won a gold medal in men's road criterium race.
Thailand's Sarawut Sirironnachai won the silver medal and Singapore's Boon Kiak Yeo bronze.

In women's road criterium race, Thailand's Juthatip Maneephan won the gold medal while Vietnam's Nguyen Thi That won silver and Malaysia's Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir bronze.

Vietnam win historic marathon gold
In athletics, Hoang Nguyen Thanh won a gold medal in marathon, which is Vietnam's first in the event in SEA Games history.

Thanh finished in 2:25.080 minutes. Agus Prayogo of Indonesia finished in 2:25.380 to win silver medal and Thailand's Tony Ah-thit Payne finished in 2:26.400 to win bronze.
Vo Xuan Vinh won a gold medal in 20km men's walk and Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc in women's walk.
Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa won a bronze medal for Vietnam in the women's marathon event. She obviously gave it all she got and ended up vomiting after reaching the finish line.
She finished in 2:57.350 minutes, two seconds after gold medalist Odekta Naibaho Elvina of Indonesia and more than one second after silver medalist Christine Hallasgo of the Philippines.
In chess, Vietnam won a gold medal in the rapid event.
Grandmaster Le Quang Liem, who returned from the U.S. for the tournament, kept winning other opponents to lead Vietnam after four rounds of rapid chess event. In the final round, they gained an easy draw with the Philippines, who won the silver medal.

Vietnam also won gold medals in shooting's 10m team pistol event, canoeing's men's C2 1,000 m.
