I'm 32 years old and have been picking up English lessons again (after high school) for two months now. I decided not to go to any language center.
A center’s program would involve 3-4 sessions per week, each session lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, while it takes around an hour traveling to and from the center every time. And each course of around 10 weeks cost VND10 million (US$400).
It’s not efficient. So I decided to self-study online, learning through phone apps.
Nowadays, technology has developed, so accessing English learning tools and materials is no longer as difficult as before, self-study is very easy and exciting. When you study with AI, it can guide us in developing ideas when speaking, correct mistakes, and help us improve our listening and speaking skills greatly.
Apps are designed to make learning enjoyable, so I’ve found the experience very comfortable. Or, you can utilize your time by turning on English YouTube videos to listen while having a bath or cooking.
After two months of self-study, I feel I have changed for the better. I can speak English confidently, am better at listening and pronunciation, and find learning English a daily joy.
I think parents should also consider self-study for their children. The important thing is to get your children interested and know how to self-study, so that they can find information, documents, and tools on their own.
In the future, I will also let my children study on their own and not push them into language centers.
