Should Vietnam stick with 30-day tourist visa or extend the duration to attract retirees and facilitate family visits? Readers are divided.

"The vast majority of tourists go to Vietnam for LESS THAN 2 WEEKS! So the 30 day e-visa is perfectly fine for tourists! People have jobs, they can't go on a holiday for more than 2 weeks so stop asking for those long term visas, and trying to sound like you care so much for tourism in Vietnam."

"Real tourists have jobs and have no desire to spend months of their life here. The only people crying for longer visas are backpackers and fake English teachers."

"All those who keep harping on visa validity are not genuine tourist. Good for the authorities that they can finally looks at the genuine number of tourist as compared to previous years where you have lots of bogus tourist that come to Vietnam to look for job."
Chris Low

But some disagreed, saying long-term tourist visa can make Vietnam's tourism more competitive.

"Vietnam is missing the boat on retired people vs Philippines, Dubai and Thailand that have now long-term visa for them. Vietnam has low cost of living, hot weather all year, nice beaches, great food and a lot more places to visit than Dubai but the government does not pay attention to that large wealthy population."

"Have you ever heard that there are millions of pensioners in Europe, the U.S. and Canada, who flee every year before the cold winter? This group is not about people who need to work illegally. Instead, we bring our money into the country. But it needs long-term visas."

"I work here legally. I want my wife and daughter to come to me and stay from June to the end of September. And also I have the plan to visit Thailand and Singapore with them. Please let me know how to do it with the present visa regime?"
